Gluten Free Almond Flour, Oat Crust Plant Based Pizza

Well I have not made a pizza in quite some time. I opened my fridge today to throw together lunch and thought why not make a pizza. So that’s what I did. This was super easy to make, minimal ingredients is what I like to stick to, and healthy. Win win for vegans, or non vegans trying out a plant based dish.

You can totally use a food processor for this. I used my go to appliance my lovely power house the vitamix. You will need to use it to make the sauce as well as the crust. So I suggest making the crust first.

Well on to this lovely pizza!

Ingredients for crust:

1 cup oat flour ( simply grind oats into flour)

1/3 cup almond meal ( either purchase already made almond meal or simply grind almonds into a flour. Do not over process or it will be nut butter, that in pizza is a no)

1 teaspoon onion powder

1teaspoon garlic powder

1 teaspoon Olive oil

Pinch of sea salt

1 package yeast

1/4 cup water

Italian seasoning to add to crust just use your cooking judgement on how much.

This makes a petsonal size pizza


Preheat oven to 350°

Once you grind the almonds and oats into flour ( do them seperately) then add to a mixing bowl. Add in all the dry ingredients except for the Italian seasoning. Stir to combine. Then once combined add in water little bit at a time and mix with a spoon. If need be add a bit more water. You want a firm dough that you can press out onto a pizza tray. Once the dough is ready and pressed onto your pizza tray sprinkle on Italian seasoning. Next step is to bake the crust for 5 minutes so it will firm up and not soak in the sauce and turn to mush. That’d be quite yucky!

Almond cashew parmesan cheese for topping if you’d like. It’s crazy good, so I suggest you go for it!

Simple to make

Add 1/3 cup almond flour and 1/3 cup cashew flour with 1 1/2 tablespoon nutritional yeast and a few pinches of sea salt together in a bowl and stir. Instead delicious plant based parmesan cheese. I want to put that stuff on everything now!

Now onto the sauce.

Ingredients for pizza sauce:

1 cup of your favorite tomato pasta sauce. I typically use Prego Farmers Market garlic vegetable or tomato basil. I use this one because the glass jar it comes in makes a great drinking glass when cleaned and recycled. Go green!

1/3 cup cashews soaked for an hour and drained.

Red bell pepper flakes. Use what you’d like depending on how spicy you want the sauce.

1 teaspoon onion powder

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1/2 teaspoon oregano

1/3 red bell pepper


Add all the ingredients to your high speed blender and blend to a creamy consistency.

The pizza crust should now be ready to take out of the oven.

Now add the sauce to your crust. Then add toppings.I topped my pizza with onions and peppers, but it’s your creation so choose your toppings.

Now bake for 15 to 20 minutes or until toppings are cooked, time varies depending on your toppings.

If you want to stay away from the high amount of nuts in the recipe omit the cashew cream and parmesan cheese

Let cool before serving. Top with parmesan cheese and enjoy!
